What is the origin and lineage?

Is age a consideration?
We accept students 16 and over.
Is it full contact?
It is a full contact art with controlled contact being supervised by accredited instructors at all times.
How long to get my first belt?
If you train twice a week you can achieve your first belt in under 12 weeks.
Is it an attacking or defensive art?
The Southern Preying Mantis style is based on the philosophy that the best defense, is attack.
Is it a traditional style?
Yes. The style has a very deep history.
Do you fight in competitions?
Currently the system is in the process of development to enter competitions - eg MMA in the near future.
What do I need to bring?
Covered shoes, drink bottle and a towel.
What do I wear?
For your free lesson(s), a t-shirt and shorts. When you join the school proper, you must wear the school uniform.
How do I get started?
Give us call or just turn up!!!
Is it good for women?
Yes, it is fantastic for women (16+), providing confidence and a true sense of security.
I have no experience?
No experience is necessary, as you will be guided by our accredited and friendly instructors.
Will I get hurt?
No- through the supervision of our instructors, it is our duty to ensure everyone trains in a safe and controlled environment.
Are instructors qualified and accredited?
All of our instructors are fully accredited and qualified to maintain your well being and safety.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We have full public liability insurance.
Do I have to be fit?
No, not at all. We are here to help you meet your own personal goals and needs whatever your fitness level may be.
What is a Sifu?
The word Sifu means " Teacher/father figure". A Sifu helps teach and guides you through the journey of kung fu and life.
Do I need to know Chinese?
No, this is not a requirement.
Is there weapons training and when does it start?
Weapons are an important part of the Tong Long system and start at the orange belt level.
How long are the classes?
Normal class times are 1.5 hours long.
